Top 10 Writing Tips and the Pyschology Behind Them

Hello Writers,

I came across this article today and thought it was intriguing. While this doesn't talk about novel writing in specific, I still thought it was worth the read.

I especially like their first two pieces of advice: Writer shorter and shorten your sentences.

While variety in sentence structure is important, I think it's worthwhile to recognize the importance of writing concisely.

I also thought that their advice to avoid jargon was also useful. Jargon is everywhere. The avid sports fanatic might know terms that other would not, and the list goes on.

What do you guys think?

21 Harsh But Eye-Opening Writing Tips From Great Authors

Fellow Writers,

I came across this intriguing article that contains 21 quotes about writing from some of the most prolific writers

The post title says it all: some of these are really harsh, but they're accurate.

Some of my favorites were:

I would advise anyone who aspires to a writing career that before developing his talent he would be wise to develop a thick hide. — Harper Lee

You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club. ― Jack London

Remember: when people tell you something’s wrong or doesn’t work for them, they are almost always right. When they tell you exactly what they think is wrong and how to fix it, they are almost always wrong. – Neil Gaiman

Don’t take anyone’s writing advice too seriously.– Lev Grossman

Those were some of my favorites. All of the rest were incredible as well. Which ones did you like? Go to their site and check it out.

I'm especially finding that when people tell you exactly how to fix something, they are in fact usually wrong. A brilliant quote.

Do you agree with these quotes? Why or Why not?
